I usually just kind of brain-dump into the Substack editor and hit publish, but this one required significantly more thought. Thank you so much to Peri, Sam, George, and my mom, Susan, (always my best, most exacting editor) for helping me shape this post and for catching my many, many typos.

This is lovely and moving. And there are moments of hope, as in: "There are too many of us, buses of volunteers from Haifa and Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, and not enough shovels and picks, but the farmer seems glad to have us, and patiently corrects our mistakes." "Too many of us" in solidarity. I love that.
